In Suylén, music flows through her own gifts and through hereditary lineage, as she is the daughter of the great Cuban singer and composer Pablo Milanés and the legendary Yolanda. Suylén and Liam are twins and the eldest daughters of Pablo.
Her artistic life begins in the eighties in groups such as Adalberto Álvarez's Orchestra and his Son. In the early 90s she performed as a singer for the popular group "Monte de Espuma" directed by the late musician Mario Dali, and later began her career as a solo artist, essentially in the realm of the most current Cuban songwriting. Then came collaborations in albums and live performances with her father, Pablo Milanés and her sisters Lynn and Haydée and with the band Tesis de Menta.
Graduate of the School of Art Instructors and the Ignacio Cervantes School of Music.
She has shared the stage with notable personalities of Cuban and international music, and also with her sisters Lynn and Haydée Milanés, who are equally talented singers.
She performs an excellent repertoire that includes songs by young and successful Cuban composers such as Raúl Torres, Livam, Athanai, and Descemer Bueno, to name just a few. She recorded several albums and collaborated with authors such as Carlos Varela, Yussa, José Luis Barba, Raúl Torres and her sisters Haydée and Lynn Milanés.
She has performed on stages in Cuba, Spain and Mexico, among others.
Suilén stands out for her refined and harmonious voice, as well as for a stage presence that denotes mastery and professionalism.
Suylén Milanés is a tireless and prolific creator, who is committed to an alternative music of national make that includes electronic music and Yoruba songs. She is founder of the festival of Cuban electronic music, Eyeife.
Lately Suylén Milanés has performed with her group Yarini's sessions, of which she is the lead voice.
She is director of PM Records, a cultural institution that organizes national and international cultural events.
Founder of the Eyeife Festival in 2017, Suylén has developed tireless work as a defender of the fusion of electronic sounds with Cuban musical genres, and as a promoter of alternative music in Cuba.
The singer, general director of PM Records, took part in the preparations for the fifth edition of Eyeife, which was held for the second time virtually in Havana, from December 9 to 12. In 2020, she created the group SOMOS, with the purpose of making visible the female presence in the Cuban music industry and rescuing alternative currents within the national sphere. The group won the Cuerda Viva Festival award for best rock band last year.
A graduate of Singing and Choral Direction from the "Amadeo Roldán" Conservatory in Havana, Suylén began her artistic career at age 16, influenced by her family's musical heritage.
"My father was a great example for my development as a singer and as an artist," the singer declared in a 2017 interview. In the early 90s she performed as a singer for the group Monte de Espuma, directed by the late musician Mario Dali, and then set her career on course as a solo artist. She was also vocalist for the group Tesis de Menta.
In her career as a singer she has frequently shared Cuban and international stages during her father's concerts, and with her sisters Lynn and Haydée Milanés. Her twin sister Liam is a music producer and resides in Madrid.
She will be remembered on stage singing the opening songs of each edition of Eyeife and supporting all artists and collaborators from the backstage.
Her unwavering commitment to female empowerment led her to create in 2020 the SOMOS Project, a space that aims to inspire women in alternative music to defend their place in the path of the music industry.
