This Sunday, January 30th at 5:20 in the morning, Cuban singer Suylén Milanés Bennet, daughter of renowned singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés, died as a result of a stroke. This was reported by the Recording and Music Publishing Company, EGREM in a tweet this morning.

The artist had suffered a severe stroke on Thursday, January 27th and practically her fate was sealed. Since Friday afternoon, the medical team that attended to her at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery officially declared her brain dead.

In a message on FB, Pablo's current wife writes:
"Dear family and friends, I have preferred to send you this message because I know that many will continue asking about our dear Suylen. Her heart stopped beating a few hours ago. Pablo is calm because since the diagnosis of brain death he knew the outcome and has been suffering it heartbreakingly within the extraordinary strength that he has.

We are all doing poorly but together: the children, the aunt, Pablo and I and for his health, which is fragile, we will not go to Havana for now. We know that you are all with us accompanying us in the most difficult moment of Pablo's life and we will try to live this moment in silence. Thank you for so much love," reads a message on behalf of Pablo Milanés.

A graduate of the School of Art Instructors and the Ignacio Cervantes School of Music, she worked as a vocalist in the groups Adalberto Álvarez y su son, Monte de espuma, Aries and Tesis de menta.

In 1999, she embarked on her career as a solo artist, recorded several albums and collaborated with authors such as Carlos Varela, Yussa, José Luis Barba, Raúl Torres and her sisters Haydée and Lynn Milanés.

She performed tours and concerts in Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador and Portugal and participated in the recording and presentation of several albums by her father, the distinguished singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés.

In parallel with her career as a performer, she developed an intense work as a cultural promoter. She founded and directed the festivals Proposiciones, Proelectrónica and Eyeife, an important international event of electronic and fusion music, based in Cuba. She was, until the moment of her death, the executive director of the cultural institution PM Records. She created, in 2020 the project Somos, a space for training young women who are beginning in the music industry.
