Rolando Chiong Estévez

Roly

Young Cuban actor recognized for his work in Cuban Television. Son of Rolando Chiong, a prominent Cuban filmmaker and brother of Sian Chiong, actor and singer.

Roly never wanted to be an actor. At least he didn't think about it, despite several family members having worked in television or being involved with cameras in different ways.

His dream since childhood had been to be an athlete, or anything else. After trying different trades, he started as a camera assistant in television, until fate, or his own choice, has placed him as one of the most visible young faces in recent times on the national small screen.

An actor since 2007, he has worked on various projects in Cuban Television. He has worked in 11 telenovelas or series, two films, seven police dramas and three music videos, among different audiovisual pieces that include the Series Rompiendo el Silencio and the Series De Amores y Esperanzas, Las Telenovelas Al compás del son, Santa María del Porvenir, En tiempos de amar, En fin, el mar and Vuelve a mirar.

Roly is skilled in martial arts and motorcycles, and yearns for a character linked to sports, now that he is in the early stages, while taking on pimps or gays because he always tries to get "into the character's skin".

In theater he has been part of the casts of the Grupo Olga Alonso and Teatro del Sol.

Roly Chiong's Confessions
Your characters: It doesn't take me much work to separate myself from the characters when I return to my real life, but sometimes when I was with my friends from Cayo Hueso, where I live, I would realize that I was behaving like Omar. I enjoyed it at that moment but then I would let it go" ...

Omar, the character from En fin, el mar: What the director was interested in with the character was, precisely, not exaggerating his flaws. So we can see an Omar with a negative projection who can have certain virtues: he loves his son very much and loves his wife, but he doesn't know how to keep her because he mistreats her and is unfaithful. I think that beyond all that, Omar is also a victim of his reality and his circumstances" ...

Your work with other actors and actresses: It's always very positive to work with experienced actors and actresses because they are excellent professionals who have much to contribute. But going on stage with young artists gives me the possibility to help them and provide my knowledge, based on my experience" ...

The difficult work of being an actor: Sometimes work is scarce or there is none. I know actors and actresses who have nothing to do. Even the possibilities in theater have dropped a lot. On the other hand, you have to constantly prepare yourself, because there are young people who are very well prepared and eager to work" ...
