El cantor de “Los Sueños Azules y las cosas cotidianas”
Words flow deliciously and dissolve within the cadenced music that, to the rhythm of guitars and percussion, are introduced by a flute that enchants with its soft and sensual melody. The voice of this brilliant composer adapts perfectly to the sweet swarm of notes that together are called "Presiento una semilla".
And it is the author himself who interprets this beautiful theme as a display of his ingenuity and talent… his name is Roberto Ruiz Rebó and he was born in the eastern city of Guantánamo.
He studied a degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba. He is a founder of the Nueva Trova movement in Guantánamo, and was a member of the National Council of that Organization, as well as provincial president of the Brigade of Young Cuban Writers and Artists "Hermanos Saiz" which was the initiator of what today is the Association of the same name.
He organized, along with trovador figures such as Lorenzo Cisneros, Topete, the first Political Song Festivals August 4th in Guantánamo, which today is a major celebration of national character.
He was a winner of numerous music and poetry competitions. In 1981, the song "Son Enamorado", with lyrics and music by Roberto, Topete and Alberto Brauet, and performed by Miriam Ramos, obtained a special mention in the "Adolfo Guzmán" Competition. That same year, Cuban Television presented a ballet with the instrumental music of that melody.
In 1991, Roberto published his book of poems "La Mejor Maravilla". He has to his credit two unpublished poetry books titled "Yesterday" and "Cartas del Kevee", a notebook of poems written during the war in Angola, in which he participated as a soldier.
In 2004, he recorded the CD, "Sueño de Azules con Bernadette", with songs of his own creation. He is a member of the UPEC (Union of Journalists of Cuba), of the UNEAC, National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists, of the ACCDAM (Cuban Association of Composers and Musical Authors) and of the SGAE (General Society of Authors of Spain).
He has worked as a screenwriter, editor and director of Film and Television and has participated in different international festivals, where he has been awarded, such as the "Festival of New Latin American Cinema" in Havana, and the "Yalta City Film Festival", in Ukraine. He has presented his work as a trovador in Dublin, capital of Ireland, alongside figures of the stature of Irish Christy Moore.
He currently resides in the City of Mérida, Yucatán, from where he continues with his poetic and musical work presenting himself in cultural forums in this place.
Roberto Ruiz Rebó's music is subtle and holds within it simple and everyday motifs, circumstances and experiences that for most people often go unnoticed; but that his poet's soul perceives and keeps wrapped in the cadenced notes of his heart's beating to share them with the world converted into song. His voice is fresh, his arrangements simple like his way of speaking, like his way of feeling; but of a beauty that enchants whoever has the audacity to listen to the material of "Sueño de Azules con Bernadette".
It is highly recommended to delve a little into the sound universe of Roberto Ruiz Rebó, born in Cuba; but citizen of the World.
