Mauricio Figueiral

Renowned Cuban trovador, member of UNEAC. He is a graduate in Audiovisual Media from the Instituto Superior de Arte. Mauricio belongs to a generation of minstrels who at that time placed emphasis on the creation of texts with an extremely complex poetic universe. He hosts the program "Secciones callejeras" for Venezuelan Television.

Mauricio is introverted and reserved but sincere, committed, persistent, successful and natural. His compositions speak of feelings and experiences, with an exuberant lyricism and uncommon sensitivity. This is how his friends and specialized critics classify him, and they are not far from reality.

His first foray into the world of music and particularly the guitar occurred at the Lenin Vocational School when he was 15 years old. Since that time he begins to make his first compositions and becomes committed forever to music and audiovisual creation.

Both music and the audiovisual world attract him so intensely that he decides to reconcile them. He enrolled in the Faculty of Audiovisual Media at the Instituto Superior de Arte to delve into the mysteries of images, but did not abandon song composition.

When he graduated from ISA in 2008 in the specialty of Radio, Film and Television Direction, Mauricio Figueiral creates a true union between his two passions, because he brings his works to video clip format, makes concert flyers, designs the scenography of some of the stages where he sings and even manages to take advantage of the possibilities offered by computing and photography. Thus he becomes part of the artists of the Centro Nacional de Música Popular.

Mauricio Figueiral was among the five trovadores who made up the Séptima Cuerda, which was initially a trovador venue and later became a singular creative workshop, which moved through almost all cardinal points of the Cuban capital.

From that forge also emerged strengthened minstrels such as Lilliana H. Balance, Adrián Berazaín and Pedro Beritán. The trovador, who has been experimenting with Venezuelan folk music, Argentine rock and Andean genres, considers that now his pieces are closer to Cuban roots.

He is Coordinator for Cuba of the Organización Canto de Todos, a project that brings together Latin American singer-songwriters led by Vicente Feliú.

Since 2009 he has been a member of the Colectivo Cultural La Cantera, in Venezuela, a country where he spends long periods each year representing Cuban roots and directly sharing in the Bolivarian revolutionary process taking place in that nation.

He receives in Venezuela the Orden José Félix Ribas awarded by the Instituto Nacional de la Juventud, Venezuela, 2011. He has also performed in various countries in the region including Ecuador, Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil.

He was in charge in Caracas, Venezuela of a program for national TV titled "Como cosa tuya", which aims to promote and encourage the production of independent music videos.

Latin America has been able to enjoy the art of this young musician; in November 2011 he performs in Mar del Plata, Argentina as part of the cultural exchange between countries of the Latin American continent; and in January 2012 he performs several concerts representing Cuba in different cities of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.

He has received several scholarships and recognition thanks to his discipline and professionalism. He was winner of two National Competitions (Creation Scholarships) promoted by the Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau, in 2007 and 2008. He obtained the award in the Trova category, for his demo titled Agua, at the TV Festival "Cuerda Viva" on its 7th Anniversary (2008-2009).

During his performances in the Republic of Venezuela in 2011 he also received the Orden José Félix Ribas awarded by the Instituto Nacional de la Juventud of that country, as a member of the Colectivo Cultural La Cantera.

During his musical career he has developed 7 productions among which stand out: Antología de Torva Cubana "Raspadura con Ajonjolí" (2008) an album produced by Sello Disquero EGREM in collaboration with AHS; Doce maneras de estar lejos (2008) a live recording production at the "A Guitarra Limpia" space of the Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau; La Cantera (2011), which is an anthology of Venezuelan trovadores in which M. Figueiral participates in representation of Cuba. In 2011 he releases his first official solo album produced by Sello Disquero BIS Music (Cuba) titled "Mauricio Figueiral y todo lo contrario".
