Sigfredo Ariel Pérez-Guedes

Writer from Villa Clara. He advised the film Buena Vista Social Club, has produced albums of traditional and popular Cuban music. He holds the Distinction for National Culture and the Commemorative Medal for the Founding of the City of Santa Clara.

For the past twenty years he has worked in Cuban radio and television, writing and directing cultural programs. He advised the film Buena Vista Social Club (1998) by German filmmaker Wim Wenders. He has produced albums of traditional and popular Cuban music for numerous international record companies. He studied at the National Institute of Art.

He has worked at the printing press of the Ministry of Culture and at various radio and television stations in Cuba.

He has given talks and lectures about Cuban literature and popular culture in Cuba and Spain. He has published articles, essays, and interviews on these topics in specialized magazines in several countries. His poems have been translated into English, German, Russian, Italian, and French. He appears in numerous collections and anthologies of contemporary Cuban poetry.

He won the David Prize for Poetry in 1986 with Algunos pocos conocidos. He has received on two occasions the National Prize for Cuban Poetry "Julián del Casal" (1997-2004) and the National Critics Prize (2002-2006).

He received on six occasions the Cubadisco award for specialized notes. For more than twenty years he wrote, produced, and directed radio programs. He has written scripts for dramatized television segments (he created the television program "La hora de las brujas" -1990-1994-) and scripts for numerous musical productions.

Screenwriter of the feature film "Miradas," by Enrique Álvarez (2000), Screenplay Award at the Havana New Latin American Cinema Festival. He directed the Cuban Music Magazine of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (2007-2008). His drawings and designs have illustrated books and magazines, record covers, films, and posters.
