René Monteagudo Miranda

Pitcher and outfielder who played with the Washington Senators (1938, 1940, 1944) and the Philadelphia Phillies (1945). He pitched and batted left-handed.

He was born in Havana. He signed with the Senators where he made his debut as a pitcher on September 6, 1938, but suffered arm problems and moved to the outfield. In 1945 with the Phillies he was the most successful pinch-hitter in the league with an average of 18-for-52 (.346). He also pitched 14 games as a reliever. In 1946 Monteagudo was one of the players blacklisted by Commissioner Happy Chandler after leaving the major leagues to play in the Mexican League.

In his four-season career in the major leagues, Monteagudo accumulated a .289 batting average (78-for-270) with 21 RBIs, 32 runs, nine doubles, one triple, and two stolen bases in 156 games.

As a pitcher, he had a record of 3–7 with 93 strikeouts, 6.42 ERA, two saves, and 168 innings in 46 games (11 as a starter). René Monteagudo died in Hialeah, Florida at the age of 57.
