He studied music at the Conservatorio «Amadeo Roldán» and graduated with a specialty in singing from the Escuela Nacional de Arte and the Instituto Superior de Arte.
He began his artistic career in the Coro del ICRT in 1966. As a student, he participated in a non-professional production of Bastián y Bastiana (Colás), directed by Bebo Ruiz and Roberto Sánchez Ferrer (1968).
In 1985 he obtained a position as a soloist at the Centro Nacional de la Música de Concierto through competitive examination. He joined the cast of the Teatro Lírico Nacional in 1993.
That same year he performed in the operas Lucia di Lammermoor (Raimondo) and Aida (King), followed by El retablo de Maese Pedro (Don Quixote, 1994), El barbero de Sevilla (Basilio, 1995), La bohème (Colline, 2002), among other titles.
He participated in the premiere of the first Cuban opera with a rural setting, El sueño de los Carballo, by Norman Milanés (1993) and performed in the zarzuelas El cafetal (Lázaro, 1995) and La tabernera del puerto (Simpson, 2002).
In 2000 he performed the lead role in Porgy and Bess in Austria and Spain, in the production of the Teatro Lírico Nacional directed by Octavio Cortázar.
He has also performed in Portugal and the United States.
