Actor and comedian, of Cuban and North American nationality, born in Colón, Cuba.
Son of a lawyer who was a classmate of Fidel Castro at the University of Havana and of a dentist mother, Oscar moved with his family to Colombia in 1960, and shortly after to the United States, where they settled in New Jersey.
Oscar obtained his naturalization in 1964. He studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and at the Parsons School of Design, in addition to being certified as a dentist at the Magna Institute of Dental Technology. But he had talent and interest in acting and comedy, so he trained at the acting and directing school of Oscar Fessler.
Eventually, he began performing with the comedy company The Shock of Funny, in more than 300 shows. He moved to Los Angeles where he joined The Groundlings and was part of the Warner Brothers Comedy Writer's Workshop.
In the early 2000s, he began appearing on television in small roles, until he obtained the one that made him famous: that of Oscar Martinez in the acclaimed comedy The Office (2005-2013), throughout 177 episodes. In his career, Núñez has been part of series such as Benched (2014), People of Earth (2016-2017), Sr. Iglesias (2019), among others.
His television appearances include Malcolm in the Middle, 24, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Reno 911, Del Distrito and MADtv, in addition to his role in The Office. He was also the creator and executive producer of the Comedy Central series Halfway Home, in which he played Eulogio Pla.
His film credits include The Italian Job (as a security guard), Reno 911: Miami, When Do We Eat? and The Proposal (as Ramone).[3]
He appeared as one of eight judges at the Miss U.S. 2010 pageant, where he asked a controversial question about Arizona's illegal immigrant law to Miss Oklahoma U.S., Morgan Woolard Isabel, the first runner-up. He was booed by the audience before finishing the question; however, he asked the audience to wait until he finished the question before reacting. Although Miss Woolard responded that she supports the law as a matter of states' rights, she added that she is against racial discrimination.
In 2015 he was part of the cast of the film Los 33, a film based on the 33 miners trapped underground in the San José Mine in Chile in 2010.
