Miguelito

Miguel Núñez is a Cuban pianist, composer, arranger, music producer and musical director, known, above all, for his integration of traditional Cuban music in a jazz context. He completed his musical studies at the Instituto Superior de Arte ISA, Cuba, graduating as a Specialist in piano.

Before working with Pablo Milanés, the pianist worked with Santiago Feliú, Vicente Feliú and other troubadours. He has an extensive musical career in Cuba and is recognized in many countries. He has also been a host at several well-known concerts. Miguel Núñez has been part of Pablo Milanés' musical group since 1998, and in addition to being a pianist, he is a composer and music producer. He has been responsible for the sound of the Cuban troubadour's most recent albums.

The outstanding pianist has in his favor extensive experience as a vocalist, instrumentalist and music arranger, as he has collaborated with renowned Cuban and foreign musicians, among whom are: Leo Brouwer, Fito Páez, Ricardo Arjona, Mario Lucio, Ana Belén, Mercedes Sosa, Carlos Varela, Omara Portuondo, Richard Egües, César López, Liuba María Hevia, Santiago Feliú and Chucho Valdés, to name just a few.

Miguel, in parallel with his work with Pablo, founded the group Miguel's Trío, which also includes Luis Ángel Sánchez on bass and Osmany Sánchez. With this trio he conceived the CD, Azul, under the Unicornio label, the music for the ballet Tocororo, as well as various soundtracks for film such as, for example, for the film, Páginas del diario de Mauricio, by director Manuel Pérez.

In 2017 he received the Distinction for National Culture.

In his musical career, Miguel has created a ballet, music for films, for a documentary, accompanied an opera singer, played Bach, played Chopin, has played Cuban tumbao rhythms, a changüí, a son, a bolero and at the same time plays jazz, improvises in jazz, composes, arranges for different musical genres, that undoubtedly enriches the musician and it is difficult, but these are things that must be faced in life, Miguel has said.

He has created the soundtrack for the documentary El colegio de San José, directed by Gloria Rolando. De Mantova a Mantua is a story by Taisa Domínguez. She summoned me to compose the music for this documentary that addresses the arrival of the virgin, brought from Italy.
