Maggie Castro
Died: October 7, 2012
She was a great star who illuminated Cuban radio. This artist of the highest caliber ceased to exist physically this Sunday in the early morning hours. She passed away in La Habana, but her name and her art of bringing unforgettable characters to life will remain, forever, in the history of Radio Progreso.
Queen of Bolero; Gone with the Wind; The Woman X; Epidemic; Love, Love; Facing Life; Alien, among many works in the various dramatized programs: The Novel of Two, Studio Four, Cuban Novel, The Story, Your Love Novel… but she didn't only create legend in those spaces, but also left a humorous, very singular image in the great show of the Cuban Family Station: Afternoon Joys, where she made three characters her own (Maggie, Peggie, and Rogelia).
The history of this Havana native's artistic performance, born and raised in the Juanelo neighborhood of San Miguel del Padrón, began with theater. Later would come television and radio. In this last medium she conquered countless awards.
She began doing amateur theater, then came the School of Training for Actors of the former ICR, where she studied with professors of the stature of Alejandro Lugo and Alfredo Perojo.
Maggie Castro was an exceptional actress and one of the brightest voices that Cuban radio has ever had.
