Distinguished Cuban musician with broad recognition in Cuba and abroad. Graduate with a Gold Title from the Instituto Superior de Arte. He has meritoriously represented the Cuban piano school in different international events.
Graduated in 2007 from the Instituto Superior de Arte with a Gold Diploma under the tutelage of the eminent professor Teresita Junco. He pursued advanced studies as part of the Lievenscolar at the Musical University of the Lugano Conservatory and at the prestigious International Academy of Pianoforte "Lake Como" where he receives lessons from masters Fou Ts'ong, Andreas Staier, Dimitri Bashkirov, John Perry, Malcolm Bilson among others and is especially guided by master William Grant Naborè.
Artistic Career
He made his debut with the Matanzas City Symphony Orchestra at the age of 15 and has performed as a soloist with all Cuban Symphony Orchestras and with many Symphony Orchestras of Europe and Latin America. He has collaborated in Rome with Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani and with other composers and directors of Film and Theater from various countries.
He was one of the pianists selected for the Young Masters of the Keyboard presented by the International Piano Foundation "Theo Lieven" in Italian Switzerland in September 2010
Presentations
Marcos Madrigal has succeeded in Rome and various stages of the world.
Marcos Madrigal has offered recitals in the main Concert halls in Cuba and in other countries such as Italy, France, Spain, Germany, England, Switzerland, Austria, Panama and in the main capitals of Latin America such as Buenos Aires, Caracas, Bogotá, San José, etc. Among his most recent presentations is his participation in the Dinard International Music Festival (Brittany), at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, where he performed accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City, and his debut at Steinway Hall in London, in a recital organized by the Keyboard Trust.
Recordings
Together with the prestigious group Ars Longa he has recorded several CDs for the record label K617 and has conducted different tours through France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Colombia. At the end of 2004 with this group he participates in a series of concerts organized and conducted by maestro Claudio Abbado performing as soloist.
With the record label Colibrí he has participated in various recordings such as: Homo Ludens, with maestro Leo Brouwer, Concerto for Four Hands with his teacher Teresita Junco, Monograph of composer Roberto Valera with the Camerata Romeu, The Knight and his Destiny with José María Vitier as well as the Opera Omnia for Piano and Orchestra of this composer.
Awards and Honors
He has been laureate in various editions of the "Amadeo Roldán" competition, obtaining the Grand Prize in 1998, as well as mentions for the interpretation of Cuban and Latin American music. In 1999 he participated in the second edition of the Ibero-American Competition of Havana, being awarded in his category. He obtained the award for best accompanying pianist at Festival PerCuba 2000. He is winner of the First Prize of the UNEAC 2002 Competition and the mention for best interpretation of Cuban music, as well as laureate with the First Prize in the second edition of the International Competition "Ignacio Cervantes" held in February 2003. In August 2006 he was awarded in the second edition of the International Piano Competition Ciudad Panama. In October of that same year he won First Prize and the Special Award for the interpretation of Costa Rican music in the advanced category of the IV International Piano Competition María Clara Cullel held in Costa Rica. In June 2008 he won the First European Prize of Essecuzione Pianistica in the third edition of the International Piano Competition "Citta di Avezzano", Italy. For his concert in April 2011 he won the Audience Award of the most important concert series "Les Jeudis du Piano" 2010-2011 held in Geneva, Switzerland. In April 2013 he wins the 55th edition of the international competition Premio Jaen (II prize, I prize not awarded)
He has been conferred the prestigious International Award Medaglia D´Oro 2012 "Maison des Artistes" (Foyer des Artistes in the past) granted by the Association of Culture, Art and Science of the City of Rome.
In recent years he has been the inspirer and organizer of the Havana Clásica International Festival that brings together prestigious musicians from Cuba and abroad in Havana.
