He is a Cuban politician. Ratified as a member of the Council of Ministers in the First Ordinary Session Period of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly. Architect engineer, he has held the position of Minister of Tourism since 2004. He was elected as a Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power on April 18, 2018 in the Constitutive Session of the IX Legislature. He was an investor in the Gaviota Group. He subsequently held the positions of head of technical investment group, subdirector and general director of the Río de Luna hotel and later subdelegated of Gaviota for the eastern provinces.
He is an architect engineer. In 1990 he began his working life as an investor in the Gaviota Group, in the construction of the Río de Luna and Río Mares hotels at Playa Esmeralda, Holguín. He was head of the Technical Investment Group, Subdirector and General Director of the Río de Luna Hotel, and later Subdelegated of the Gaviota Tourism Group for the eastern provinces.
In 1996 he was appointed General Director of the Varadero Azul Hotel Complex and in 1999 promoted to First Vice President of the Gaviota Tourism Group, of which he was President in 2001. In 2004 he was appointed Minister of Tourism.
He has been Minister of Tourism in Cuba since 2004 and during his tenure Marrero Cruz has conducted important management of the Foreign Investment Portfolio for Tourism since 2004. Under his management, numerous projects have been carried out in the sector, which has transformed into one of the fundamental engines of the Cuban economy.
He was awarded the 2017 Tourism Excellence Award for his personal and work trajectory in his 14 years as Minister of Tourism.
