The President of the Republic proposed to the National Assembly of People's Power the appointment of Manuel Marrero Cruz, current Minister of Tourism, to the position of Prime Minister.

According to the Third Transitional Provision of the Constitution, "once elected, the President of the Republic, within a period of three months, proposes to the National Assembly of People's Power the appointment of the Prime Minister, Vice Prime Ministers, the Secretary and other members of the Council of Ministers.

Fulfilling this mandate, the President of the Republic proposed to the National Assembly of People's Power the appointment of Manuel Marrero Cruz, current Minister of Tourism, to the position of Prime Minister.

Given its relevance in directing important processes, an exhaustive analysis was carried out –affirmed Díaz-Canel–, evaluating the necessary renewal of some of its members, and, on the other hand, maintaining the stability that allows it to fulfill its functions in the complex situation that we all know.

After studying their biographical summaries, the proposed individuals possess an extensive management trajectory, occupying different positions in an ascending manner and possess, furthermore, qualities which we consider place them in conditions to integrate the Council of Ministers, he assured.

As Prime Minister, Díaz-Canel appointed Manuel Marrero Cruz, who "served as Minister of Tourism for 16 years, and was selected for this responsibility by Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz. The 56-year-old deputy is an architect and progressed from the grassroots level, first as an investor in tourism facilities in northern Holguín, and held different positions in the management of hotels in the eastern provinces and in Varadero".

In 1999 he was promoted to First Vice President of the Gaviota Tourism Group and a year later to President of it. Throughout his career, he has been characterized by his modesty, honesty, work capacity, political sensitivity and loyalty to the Party and the Revolution.
