He conducted research on topics such as Mexican painting of the eighties, environmental sculpture in Havana and Villa Clara, or the humorous supplement Melaíto.

He published articles in various periodicals, drafted numerous exhibition catalogs, and wrote prefaces for several books. He was curator of dozens of exhibitions. He also served on countless artistic competition juries, as well as on teaching tribunals.

Through his work in academia, he contributed to a notable improvement in the quality of training for young artists.

He received several recognitions, such as outstanding member of the National Council of Plastic Arts, of the People's Power system, and of the Ministry of Culture. He was also awarded the cultural distinction Zarapico.

A man of remarkable clarity in the exercise of the cultural policy of the Cuban Revolution, he enjoyed enormous leadership and notably contributed to establishing the most fruitful and coherent relations between creators and institutions.
