She was born in Marianao, Ciudad de la Habana, on January 28, 1950, daughter of working-class parents. She completed primary education at public school No. 103 in la Víbora, municipality of 10 de Octubre. At age 11 she participated in the literacy campaign in Ciudad de la Habana.
She completed secondary studies at the Escuela Secundaria Básica Tomás Alba Edison, in la Víbora, municipality of 10 de Octubre. She pursued pre-university education at the preuniversitario René O. Reiné in la Víbora, municipality of 10 de Octubre.
In 1969 she entered medical school, but had to abandon her studies and began again in the 1973-1974 academic year.
In the 1974-1975 academic year she transferred to the teaching hospital General Calixto García. Upon completing the 5th year of medicine she enrolled in the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
Upon completing the 6th year of medicine she took a course on Organization and Tactics of Medical Services in Wartime. In December 1978 she was appointed chief of medical company of the Medical-Sanitary Battalion (UM 5070) of the Tank Division of the RAM, where she served in this unit for 4 years.
She was later assigned to fulfill an internationalist mission in the Republic of Cabo Verde (Africa), where she remained until 1985, serving as a military physician.
Upon returning in 1985-1989 she completed a residency in Otolaryngology. From 1992 to 1998 she was head of the ORL service, where she performed important organizational and educational work, contributing to the consolidation of ties with the Cuban Society of Otolaryngology.
From 1993 to 1994 she participated in the Clinical Trials Center, in the study of Epidemic Neuropathy in Ciudad de la Habana, and prepared the ORL survey for the entire country.
Member of the Cuban Society of Otolaryngology.
Invited member of the Provincial ORL Group Ciudad de la Habana.
Vice Secretary of the Cuban Society of ORL from March 1995 to 1999.
Published "Alterations of the VIII Cranial Nerve in Epidemic Neuropathy in Cuba. Preliminary Report" in the Revista Cubana de Oftalmología. Editorial Ciencias médicas.
Co-author of the ORL textbook for students.
Has presented various scientific works since she was a student.
Holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (r) of the Medical Services of the FAR.
