He began his medical degree at the University of Havana in 1947 and completed his studies in 1954. During his student life, he served as a teaching assistant in Orthopedics at the University Hospital "Calixto García" (1951-1954), as well as at the Emergency Room of Havana (1953-1954). He was a physician in the Orthopedics Service of the University Hospital "Calixto García" (1954-1955), orthopedic surgeon in a private clinic in Guantánamo (1956-1961), orthopedic surgeon at Guantánamo hospital (1958-1961) and Assistant Professor of the Natural Sciences Department at the Guantánamo Preparatory Institute (1960-1961).
He held various positions, among which stand out, Chief of Military Health of the MNR, Sector A of Guantánamo (1960-1961), Second Chief of Medical Services of the Eastern Army of the FAR (1961-1963), Chief of Medical Services of the Eastern Army of the FAR (1963-1965), Director and orthopedic surgeon of the Military Hospital "J. Castillo Duany" (1965-1970), as well as Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the School of Medicine of the University of Oriente (1967-1970).
He served as orthopedic surgeon at the Military Hospital "Carlos J. Finlay" (1970-1975) and orthopedic surgeon on an internationalist mission at the Hospital "Harasta" in Damascus, Arab Republic of Syria (1975).
Added to his responsibilities were those of Chief of the Orthopedics Service of the Military Hospital "Carlos J. Finlay" (1976-1979), Chief of the Military Postgraduate Department of Medical Services of the FAR (1979-1980), Chief of the Instruction Section of the Higher Institute of Military Medicine (ISMM) (1980-1982), Chief of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology ISMM (1982-1985), Consulting Professor of Orthopedics (1985-1989), as well as Advisor of Orthopedics at the Higher Institute of Military Medicine (1989-1996).
He retired as a FAR Officer in 1989 with the rank of Colonel.
He was director and orthopedic surgeon of the MEDITEX clinics in Luanda, Republic of Angola (1996-1998) and Maputo, Republic of Mozambique (1999).
He belonged to different scientific societies among which are the Cuban Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, of which he was an Associate Member (1960), Full Member (1967), President of the Society (1973-1977), Board Member of the Society (1977-1983), Vice President of the Society (1983-1985) and Honorary Member (2006). He was also a member of the International Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SICOT), (Full Member) (1977-1990) and Emeritus Member from 1990. He was part of the National Advisory Group of Orthopedics and Traumatology of MINSAP (1971-1989).
He held several academic and scientific degrees. His teaching work was as Assistant Professor (1977), Full Professor (1983) and Consulting Professor (2001). Among the scientific degrees are those of Candidate for Doctor of Medical Sciences (1985) and Doctor of Medical Sciences (1999) in addition to Specialist of 2nd degree in Orthopedics and Traumatology (1986).
Throughout his career, numerous scientific works were published and presented in national and international journals and congresses. He was an advisor and coauthor of several texts and advisor for several residency completion works.
Throughout his professional, labor and academic life, he received various distinctions, among which are the medals "Fighter of the Underground Struggle", "Fight Against Bandits", "Manuel Fajardo Rivero", "Distinguished Service of the FAR", "Internationalist Fighter of 2nd Order", "20, 30, 40 and 50th Anniversary of the FAR" as well as founding member of the PCC.
