José Luis Fernández Yero

Doctor of Medical Sciences. Specialist in First and Second Degrees in Immunology. Specialist Full Professor. Senior Researcher. First Level Technologist. Full Member of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba. Founder of the Center for Immunoassay. Honorary Member of the Cuban Society of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Born in Arroyo Naranjo, Havana. Outstanding figure in Cuban medicine. Throughout his professional career he has held various teaching and management responsibilities, among which stands out: General Director of the Center for Immunoassay of Havana.

Contributions
Development of instruments, methods and mass screening programs for diseases. Creator of SUMA® Technology, widely used in Cuba and Latin America.
Study and assimilation of different programming languages and computer management systems. Instrumental analysis. Electronics, mechanics and physics applied to instrumental analysis.

Under his scientific direction the Center for Immunoassay has obtained important results for the country, such as the establishment of the National Network of SUMA Diagnostic Laboratories, through which more than one million pregnant women have been studied and the birth of children with severe malformations incompatible with life has been prevented.

He has obtained three national patents and three international patents. He has also carried out important missions in countries such as China, Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela, allowing the extension of SUMA technology. He has taught undergraduate Immunology classes to medical students at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena.

Advisor for specialty and doctoral thesis. He has participated in defense committees for specialty and doctoral thesis, as well as in national and international events as an invited speaker. He has more than twenty national scientific publications and eight international publications. Member of numerous national and international scientific organizations.
