Leonardo Lara

He began his career in the arts in 1983, as part of the Theater Group "Olga Alonso", where he studied acting with professor Humberto Rodríguez and participated in the stagings of Andoba (Adoba and Guillermo), Santa Camila de la Habana Vieja (Ñico and Pirey) and María Antonia (Carlos)

He subsequently continued his acting studies with professors Humberto Arenal and Adolfo de Luis, and in artistic direction with the prestigious professor Nelson Dorr.

From 1983 to the present, he has developed a commendable career as an actor, alternating dramatic theater with musical theater, and venturing into comedy, drama, farce, lyric theater, classical theater, voice acting and entertainment. He has also worked as a professor, writer and artistic director.

Under the Direction of Maestro Nelson Dorr, he performed one of the two leading roles in the world premiere of the Spanish work "Ocaña, pasión infinita", which won the Lope de Vega award.

With the Buscón Group, directed by José Antonio Rodríguez, he played the character of Tartufo in the work of the same name.

With the theatrical project "Máscara Laroye", he played the character of El Coronel in "El Monte Calvo", by Colombian playwright Jairo Niño.

With the Group "Teatro Estudio" and under the direction of Berta Martínez, he played the character of El Paco in the work "El tío Francisco y Las Leandras".

With the Plaza Vieja Group, directed by Huberto Llamas, he played the character of El Cocinero in the work "Madre Coraje y sus hijos" by Bertold Brecht.

In 1990 he joined the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba, where he has participated in the stagings of Cecilia Valdés, La del soto del parral, La leyenda del beso, La del manojo de rosas, La malquerida, Alankoro, Rosa la china, El Cafetal, Los claveles, Rosa la China, El duo de la africana, Las leandras, La corte de Faraón, Amalia Batista, Luisa Fernanda, among others.

He has worked in all mass media: Film, Radio and Television, having appeared in various programs and films, including "En Pantalla", "El guardián de la piedra", "El Conde de Montecristo" and "El Caballero Rey". For Spanish Television he played the lead role in the Cuban zarzuela "Rosa La China" by Ernesto Lecuona.

He has participated in several films, including Quiereme y verás by Daniel Torres, Guantanamera by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabio, and "El viaje".

For Cuban radio he recorded several chapters of the adventures "Después que llegó Colón" and "La Flecha de Cobre", both directed by Pablo Verbitsky

As Artistic Director he has created, among others, theatrical stagings such as Un canto a la vida, Andoba, Abril te llega con la zarzuela and El hombre y la gallina.

He has authored several unpublished works, as well as poetry books and various monologues.

Throughout his professional career he has performed under the direction of distinguished Spanish artistic directors such as Emilio Sagi, Juan José Granda, Javier Ulacia and Ángel Fernández Montesinos and Cuban directors Nelson Dorr, Huberto Llamas, Juan R. Amán, Humberto Lara and Gilberto Enríquez, among others.
