Jorge Luis Pacheco Campos

Pianist, percussionist, composer, and musical director, winner of the first prize at the International Young Jazzists Competition (JoJazz 2007). Jorge Luis is a graduate in piano and percussion. He has previously worked as a symphonic timpani professor at the Conservatorio Guillermo Manuel Tomás.

During his brief but fruitful artistic life, in 2007 Jorge Luis Pacheco obtained the First Prize at the International Young Jazzists Competition, JoJazz, and in 2009, competing with 114 contestants from Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States, he placed among the sixteen semifinalists in the International "Jazz solo piano" Competition in Montreux, Switzerland, being the only Latin American to participate in said competition.

Pacheco is a member of several of the most outstanding jazz and popular music groups, in addition to directing his own quartet, and has shared the stage with great Cuban musicians such as Bobby Carcassés, Javier Zalba, Orlando Sánchez, Haydée Milanés, Pablo Milanés, Aldo López-Gavilán, Harold López Nussa, Amadito Valdés, Joaquín Betancourt, Teté Caturla, Michel Herrera, and Americans Robert Sund and Stanley Clark, Aaron Golberg, and Carlos Enriquez, among others.

"Flying hands… beyond his complete technical mastery, Pacheco adds to his natural talent a feeling of total dedication to performance that identifies him, despite his youth, with the consecrated masters…" has written about the work as performer and composer of Jorge Luis, the maestro Bobby Carcassés.

During the visit of the renowned trumpeter Winston Marsalis to Cuba, in 2010, Jorge Luis Pacheco was invited to the closing concert held at the Teatro Mella in La Habana, performing several pieces with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

In his work as a composer, there are works for solo piano, string orchestra, for piano and percussion, piano and cello, symphony orchestra concerto, among others. He has participated as a guest in recording productions with Haydée Milanés, Yasek Manzano, Teté Caturla, Ruy López Nussa, Bobby Carcassés, Joaquín Betancourt, among others. He has participated in concerts and international festivals in Cuba, Germany, Spain, Italy, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, and Switzerland. He is a member of the Buena Vista Social Club.

On his album "Pacheco's Blue" he performs a piece with Chucho Valdés, who is the producer of the album.
