Muerte: October 16, 1977
She was born in Salamanca, Spain, and is recognized as a woman of great fortitude and courage. Mother of Abel and Haydée Santamaría, in addition to three other children, Joaquina Cuadrado was deeply linked to the revolutionary movement from the very moments of the assault on the Moncada barracks. She would later support all the actions of the July 26 Movement.
She endured with great steadfastness the provocations of the military who terribly tortured her son Abel.
Upon the triumph of the Revolution, she was General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women at the old Constancia sugar mill, in Encrucijada, Villa Clara.
Although she was a very sickly woman, she worked hard for the benefit of the community of the same sugar mill that today bears the name of Abel Santamaría Cuadrado.
