Jaime Crombet Hernández Baquero

Cuban revolutionary who held various positions throughout his life, in which he excelled as a recognized leader. Cuban politician, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba since 1975.

He was born on April 3, 1941. He studied Civil Engineering and was Vice President of the National Assembly of People's Power until 2012, when he requested his resignation due to health problems.

He was elected deputy for the Municipality of San Cristóbal, in the province of Pinar del Río in the I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII Legislatures.

In his youth, he was President of the University Student Federation and First Secretary of the Union of Communist Youth of the University of Havana and of that same province in 1964.

From 1966 to 1972 he served as First Secretary of the National Committee of the UJC and at the same time Head of the Youth Column of the Centennial from 1968 to 1972. From 1972 to 1975, he was Second Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in the province of Camagüey.

Furthermore, he served as Political Chief of the Northern Front in the People's Republic of Angola in 1976.

He was First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in the province of Ciudad de La Habana from 1977 to 1978; ambassador of Cuba to the People's Republic of Angola in 1979 and First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in the province of Pinar del Río from 1980 to 1983.

He was secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC from 1983 to 1990; vice president of the Council of Ministers and Colonel of the Reserve of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba.

He represented Cuba at multiple international events. He received numerous medals and commendations for services rendered to the Homeland and his outstanding work.

He died in Havana on May 24, 2013 as a victim of a long and painful illness, leaving behind his three daughters: Celia, Ofelia and Tania Crombet, the latter married to former Cuban Minister of Foreign Relations, Felipe Pérez Roque.
