Journalist and chess historian, a true authority on the subject in Cuba. He received the National Sports Journalism Award, in the special category for Life's Work in 2018.
He was born in Camagüey in 1952. His vocation was oriented toward the humanities; in particular, literature and its practice, which is why he studied Literature and Journalism.
At 18 years old he began working at Juventud Rebelde, in the early 1970s, after having completed the "School of Correspondents" of that newspaper. He started as a copy editor, then headline writer, assistant to the editor-in-chief… He moved to the sports page and therefore began writing about chess in 1973. He was the page editor for many years and between 1998 and 2001, editor-in-chief.
Beyond journalism proper, he has worked on history; chronicling significant sporting events; as well as the lives and illustrious figures through some of his books.
