He was born in the Los Hoyos neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba in 1951.
His artistic work began in 1970, as an actress in radio and television, and later as a director of programs. Subsequently he joined the Conjunto Dramático de Oriente, which became Cabildo Teatral Santiago.
In May 1992 he founded the Macubá collective, which has distinguished itself through research and confrontation of experiences through theater; as well as work with popular religiosity, traditions, and components of Cuban folklore.
Founder of the African Descendant Regional Articulation and its director, since 1997, of the International Biennial of Orality of Cuba event. She is, furthermore, an oral narrator of Afro-Cuban culture, a source of pride for her native city, as she herself says:
"Santiago de Cuba is the city of the word and the source of all narration is to be nourished by others and by one's own roots",
She has represented Cuba in countries such as England, Spain, and Brazil.
She has created works as important in the Cuban panorama as Repique por Mafifa and La última campanera.
Based on her roots and essence, playwright Fátima Patterson proposes in each production elements of authentically Cuban work. A woman, Black, poor and born in the mythical Santiago neighborhood of Los Hoyos, is the founder and director of the Estudio Teatral Macubá, which she founded in 1992.

National Theater Prize 2017 for her performance over the years, bringing to the stage the themes of woman, marginality, and death.
Repique por Mafifa and La última campanera is one of her most important works.
Initiation in Black and White for Women Without Color was the proposal of the Estudio Teatral Macubá group to the Havana Theater Festival in 2011, the Year of African Descendants. The work, with script and direction by Fátima Patterson Patterson, is a tribute to the Caribbean woman and to Joel James Figarola.
