Eric Romay

Born in La Habana. At a very young age, he performed as an amateur singer at La Corte Suprema del Arte and began working in television in humorous and musical programs.

He made his theatrical debut in Rolando Ferrer's play La taza de café, at Bellas Artes (1959, dir. H. Dumé).

He later worked in various dramatic theater productions, directed by Adela Escartín and Roberto Blanco, among others.

He alternated with Alden Knight as Tirso in the definitive version of Cecilia Valdés (teatro Payret, 1961), a role interpreted for the first time by truly Black actors.

He was a founding member of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba —Luisa Fernanda (1962), María la O (1964)— and of the Teatro Musical de La Habana. He also participated in some productions of the new Cuban cinema.

He died in 1980.
