Of Lebanese descent, he is a musician and producer based in the United States who is today one of the most influential Latin personalities in the world of entertainment at an international level.
He gained fame after being a member of the tropical band Miami Sound Machine (Miami Sound Machine) although he is currently better known for being a producer of many famous artists and for being the husband of the famous Latin American music singer Gloria Estefan.
In 1968, Estefan moved to Miami, United States, where he shared an apartment with fifteen members of his family. He made a living by doing errands for his neighbors using a used car.
Estefan later began working in local beauty pageants and at Bacardí, where he was hired for the correspondence department. Later he was promoted to the marketing department for Latin America.
However, Estefan's true passions were always related to music; he played accordion occasionally in an Italian restaurant. He then formed a group that was called "Miami Latin Boys". The group was successful, and from then on he was hired to play at various private events and parties around Miami. In one of these events Emilio meets Gloria Estefan, who was then Gloria Fajardo.
Emilio offered her to join the group and then changed its name to "Miami Sound Machine". In 1977 Gloria finally decides to become part of the band. In the band, Emilio played the accordion.
In the early eighties, the group, which also included the future husband of Cristina Saralegui, Marcos Avila; had already become an internationally recognized band. The songs "Get On Your Feet" and "Conga" became hits in some countries. The group's success came after Emilio had signed an exclusivity contract with CBS.
The success that Gloria Estefan had as a solo artist made Emilio Estefan a recognized producer especially among Hispanic American artists.
He began producing albums for a wide range of singers (including Thalía, Shakira, Charlie Zaa and Ricky Martin), and Estefan became friends with his compatriots Celia Cruz and Pedro Knight.
By the end of the eighties, the Estefans already owned a mansion in an exclusive development in Miami and Emilio already owned Crescent Moon Studios, his personal recording studio also in Miami.
In 2002, Estefan began producing the Latin Grammys, an annual televised event.
On August 24, 2005, Estefan and rapper P. Diddy announced the creation of a new record label: Bad Boy Latino to help Latin rap singers. Later, in November of that same year, it was announced that Emilio would be the exclusive producer of singer and actress Jennifer Lopez on her Spanish-language album Como Ama Una Mujer which was released on March 27, 2007.
On March 13, 2006 HarperCollins Publishers announced the future publication of Estefan titled Think Big!: If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It which aims to be an autobiography with messages and advice to achieve your dreams.
In 2008 he works again with Thalía on her album "Lunada".
Gloria Fajardo had a romantic relationship with the leader of Miami Sound Machine around 1976. She and Emilio were married on September 2, 1978.
They have two children: Nayib, born on September 2, 1980, and Emily Marie, on December 5, 1994. They live on Star Island, a small and exclusive island between Miami and Miami Beach where other singers have also acquired their homes. He and his wife do a lot of charity work in the Latin community.
He has won many awards for his music, such as Grammys and Latin Grammys.
