Dinorah Argüelles

She studied singing with Zoila Gálvez, Nadja Aladjen, Ava Rogova and Mario Fernández and acting with Adolfo de Luis.

She began her artistic career in a vocal group directed by Aida Diestro at the Cabaret Tropicana.

In 1967 she joined the chorus of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba. She performed the role of Sofía in the Cuban premiere of Halka (1971) and Isabel Ilincheta in Cecilia Valdés (1971), her first major role.

Her repertoire consists mainly of Spanish zarzuelas and operettas—Luisa Fernanda (Carolina), La leyenda del beso (Amapola), La revoltosa (Mari Pepa), Bohemios (Cossette), La Corte de faraón (Lota), La chulapona (Manuela)—and Cuban works—María la O (title role), Amalia Batista (title role), Lola Cruz (Concha Cuesta), el Cafetal (África). She has also successfully performed the Viennese operetta—La viuda alegre (Ana de Glavary).

She has performed in Central Europe (with Cecilia Valdés, 1974), Africa and Latin America. She currently resides in Peru.
