Film and Television Director. Bachelor's degree in audiovisual communication media. Graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), specializing in Radio and Television Direction. Director of the popular Cuban TV programs "Pateando la lata" and "A otro con ese cuento".
As a child he filmed his friends and family members with an amateur film camera from that era.
He began studying Medicine and completed up to the third year. He found out there was a call for applications to the ISA, he applied, passed the tests and graduated in 1989.
His debut in the "serious" audiovisual world places him at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), where he enrolled in 1991, in the direction specialty. "There I started doing some work (The Last Train in 1994, a fiction medium-length film featuring Adolfo Llauradó) and documentaries. Some won awards, like Blackout (1995), which won the National Aquelarre Prize, the screenplay and best director awards at the Cubanacán Film and Video Festival, Festival Imago, among others".
From his university years, notable works include the video art The Beardless One (1993), The Wizard and the Bicycle (1996), featuring Eduardo del Llano and Osvaldo Doimeadiós, and "above all, documentaries. I really liked that genre".
Television
Compilation of short jokes.
Pateando la lata when there were hardly any programs of that kind.
He worked on a co-production with Peru, on a film titled "With Eyes Closed".
In his resume, among the various works for film, radio and television that he did during his student years, stands out an adaptation for a three-hour audiobook of Tales from the Decameron, by Giovanni Boccaccio.
Delso also remembers a day that, in a certain way, defined his life, "Vilma Montesinos called the television station with recently graduated students from that time, who were Wendy Guerra, Boris Crespo, Sigfredo Ariel and I. They asked us who among us knew how to do humor. They all said me, because my documentaries, although they were critical, always had their humorous touch.
"The first thing I did was a program of television jokes called Telesonrisas. Then Pateando la lata started, where I stayed for a long time. It was a short-term project, as it was supposed to be for the summer of 1995 and it stayed on air until 2001".
"In 2001 I started projecting myself toward other genres in television. I made several dramatized units (Zoila, 2006; The Pending Matter, 2007), stories, teleplays and telefilms (The Moon in the Water, 2009; The Hunt for the Antiquarian, 2009) that opened the path I had dreamed of.
"... but life redirects you again. While I was in those ventures, the possibility came up to do a program in the Dominican Republic called Casimente aquí. They knew me there from Pateando la lata and so I started again with television jokes. That humor program with weekly frequency lasted close to two years and when it ended they asked me in Cuba to take up the second part of Pateando la lata, but for some reason they told me it shouldn't be called the same. So I said: 'what if it's not Pateando la lata?, a otro con ese cuento' and that's how this project was born, which has been going for some years now".
