Marcel Beltrán

Marcel Beltrán is a Cuban filmmaker who currently lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. Independent director and editor. His films have been shown in Canada, France, Germany, Spain, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, and South Korea, among other countries.

With film studies from EICTV (Cuba) and Concordia University (Canada), his films have been screened internationally at festivals such as IDFA, Hot Docs, MoMA Doc Fortnight, DOC NYC, RIDM, FICG, Busan, DOK Leipzig, Málaga, among others. Founder of Mediocielo Films, professor at EICTV and Chavón | La Escuela de Diseño, project consultant in international development, and sustainability facilitator in the arts.

Son of painter parents, he graduated with a Gold Diploma from ISA in 2008, completing his studies at EICTV in 2011.

He has been recognized on several occasions as Best Director by the ICAIC Young Exhibition. His film Black Neck, White Neck participated in the Documentary Fortnight Exhibition 2013 at the MoMA museum in New York.

Recipient of a 2012 scholarship from the ELAP program at Concordia University in Montreal. He participated in Talent Campus Guadalajara 3, Kino Off-Courts, Trouville 2011, La Corrida Audiovisuelle 2013 in Toulouse, the First International Congress of Cinema and New Technologies in Tandil, Argentina, the Cinergia Meeting, Costa Rica 2014, and the Rotterdam Lab 2015, among others.

Since 2011 he has been part of the staff of the experimental film residency Independent Imaging Retreat (Film Farm). The 32nd Miami International Film Festival 2015 presented a showcase of his work as part of the Cuban Independent Emerging Film/Video Artist. That same year his fiction short film The Cloud won the Coral Prize at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

Professor and Project Consultant at EICTV. Since 2014 he has taught film workshops for young people linked in Paris to the Cinemateca francesa and the educational program of the Panama Film Festival. He is a member of the Association of Cinema, Radio and TV of UNEAC.
