Daily Rodríguez Padrón

Daily Rodríguez-Padrón holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of La Habana, Cuba in 2013, a Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Córdoba, Spain in 2016 and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Chemistry in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Córdoba (Group FQM-383).

For her Final Project, she worked at the Center for Biomolecular Chemistry, gaining experience in carbohydrate synthesis. After completing her undergraduate studies, she had a work contract at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Cuba for one year.

Currently, as part of her training in the Doctorate program in Chemistry, conducted in the Group FQM-383 "Nanochemistry and valorization of waste and biomass," she has published 10 articles in high-impact journals. Her research work has focused on the design of nanomaterials through mechanochemical milling processes, the functionalization of nanoparticles with proteins and their applications in catalysis and electrochemistry.

Noteworthy Results
Among the results of my work as a researcher, it is worth highlighting that the principles of Green Chemistry have always been followed in pursuit of sustainable scientific development. In this regard, many of the results have been directed toward the development of environmentally benign processes for the synthesis of nanoparticles and bioconjugates through mechanochemical milling processes. Taking into account toxicity and possible environmental effects, novel materials have been designed with applications in catalysis and electrochemistry. Specifically, energy storage devices have been developed, such as batteries and supercapacitors with very promising results.

Calling
Today I am a Chemist thanks to my mom. My mom holds a degree in Pharmacy and at home we always had many Chemistry books. Some time after finishing my degree, looking at photos from when I was little, I began to wonder if my path to science had been a matter of destiny. My first photo in school uniform, when I had just started school and still didn't know how to read, was with a Chemistry book in my hands. Maybe it was, destiny, or perhaps I really liked the pink color of that book.
I have been very fortunate, arriving from a foreign country, and almost without looking for it I found an extraordinary group and wonderful professors. I believe that because of that and because every day I feel that I discover something new is why I am still here, with the luck of working in what I love.

Scientific Wish
I have, like children do, many wishes. One of them is that knowledge advances and that it counts on the support of public and private institutions, that it be possible to dedicate more time to science and less to bureaucracy.
