Pupy

«Pupy», born in La Habana on September 24, 1946. National Prize in Music, he began studying piano at age 12 at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory with Ramiro Reyes; later he took piano lessons with Odilio Urfé and Ignacio Villa (Bola de Nieve).
Composer, arranger, pianist and conductor, Pupy comes from a family of musicians. His father, César "Nene" Pedroso, was a pianist who played with Chapottín and other groups, his grandfather Julio was director of the Cuba orchestra, his uncle, known as Pío Escaparate was güiro player of Arcaño y sus Maravillas, Víctor Herrera, his brother, is director of Sensación and Julio Saldívar, his other brother, plays with Osmundo Calzado's orchestra.

In his early career, Pupy was part of the Cuba Nueva ensemble, under the direction of Fernando Álvarez. By then he was already substituting for his father César «Nene» Pedroso, in Sensación and Chapotín. Later he would join Fascinación and subsequently, at the request of Elio Revé, El Charangón. During those years he met Juan Formell, with whom he later founded Van Van, an emblematic orchestra and reference point for popular dance music in Cuba and Latin America. In it Pupy established his very personal mark.

As a composer, he has over 150 works to his credit, including successes in the style of Seis semanas, Azúcar, Después que te casaste, Ya tu campana no suena, Ni bombones ni caramelos, El negro está cocinando, Temba, tumba y timba, and Qué cosas tiene la vida.

In 1999 he won a Grammy for his participation in the CD Permiso llegó Van Van, which includes three pieces composed and arranged by him. He has also participated in important recordings such as Fruta prohibida and Lo mejor de César Pedroso.

After decades with Van Van, he decided to create his own project. Thus, on October 4, 2001, Pupy y los que son son debuted on stage, which Pedroso conceived by fusing various instrumental formats, with José Luis Quintana «Changuito», who was one of the hallmarks of Van Van, as a fundamental advisor.

With Pupy y los que son son he has produced: De la Timba a Pogolotti, Qué cosas tiene la vida, El buena gente, Mi timba cerrá; Tranquilo, que yo controlo, Siempre Pupy, Éxitos de Pupy y los que son son and Sin límite. Meanwhile, dancers eagerly await the release of the next recording which should include the success Nadie sabe todo (2016), proposal of this edition of ¡De Impacto!
