Carlos Alfonso Valdéz

He initially pursued musical studies in a self-taught manner and subsequently received classes from teachers such as: Leopoldina Niñez, Federico Smith, Leo Brower, Juan Elósegui, Angela Norbert, among others. He finally completed the subjects of Intermediate Level music at the Professional Development School "Ignacio Cervantes" in 1974, alternating with his professional life. In 1970, he joined as a professional in music as Director of the Vocal Quartet "Los Novas," in the province of Matanzas.

In 1972 in the City of La Habana, he formed the Quartet "Tema 4," with which he developed interesting vocal work with different popular songs, folk melodies and street chants. This work resulted in an innovative approach to the work of vocal groups within Cuban popular music at that time.

In 1976, he formed the group SINTESIS together with Mike Porcel and José María Vitier as bassist, singer, and arranger, thus emerging in Cuba for the first time a musical group with these timbral characteristics working Cuban popular music with elements of rock music. And since 1979 he has been the director of this group.

He has composed and recorded music for Cuban Television serials and for documentaries and feature films of the ICAIC. •"Microbrigada un diario"- by Héctor Veitía. 1975

He has participated in various National and International Competitions and Festivals, obtaining awards such as:
•Song Competition Tema XI Festival 1978. FIRST PRIZE.
•Adolfo Guzmán Competition 1980. SECOND PRIZE.
•"Benny Moré" Competition 1987. Award for the album "Hilo Directo".
•EGREM Award 1987. BEST ROCK ALBUM for "Hilo Directo".
•EGREM Award 1990. GOLD SYNCOPA for the album "Ancestros".
•Coral Award 1990. BEST FILM SCORE for a Latin American Film for María Antonia, Cuban film.
•EGREM Award 1997. BEST ROCK ALBUM for the album "En los límites del Barrio".
•Cubadisco Award 2004 BEST COMPILATION ALBUM for "Trilogía de Ancestros"

He has also composed and recorded music for works of Danza Nacional de Cuba, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Conjunto Folclórico Nacional.
