Armando Lima Ojitos

Cuban meteorologist, professor and weather forecaster for the National Television News. He achieved great popularity for his distinctive phrases: "with much affection I greet you" and "as always I wish you the best."

In 1973 he graduated with a degree in Meteorology and began working in the Forecasting Department of the Institute of Meteorology as a specialist in Synoptic Analysis.

He taught this discipline in Cuba and in Nicaragua. His professionalism and dedication to his work earned him the respect of his colleagues, the journalism community, and the general public. In 2000 he successfully completed a Master's degree in Meteorological Sciences.

For years Armando Lima was the weather forecaster on television in different programs such as the magazine Buenos Días and the evening news at 8:00 p.m. He had a characteristic way of greeting and saying goodbye to the public with phrases that earned him great popularity and affection: "With much affection I greet you" and "As always I wish you the best"

Thus and always smiling he would say goodbye to the public, even when the forecast predicted heavy rains, electrical storms, stifling heat, or threatened a hurricane.

With great sense of humor he welcomed every joke or caricature made about his sayings. It was not unusual then to see him invited on different programs and laugh at those who imitated him.

Death
He died on August 12, 2005, at the age of 50, victim of a heart attack, at the Center for Medical and Surgical Research where he was planning to undergo an intervention a week later. He had just completed the first year of his doctorate in Meteorology.

Recognitions and decorations
He received important decorations, among them the distinctions Rafael María de Mendive, Tomás Romay and the Félix Elmuza, the latter awarded by UPEC in recognition of his work in the dissemination of meteorology.
