Ana Aurora Díaz

Cuban mezzo-soprano and actress who is a founding member of the National Lyric Theater of Cuba.

She was born in La Habana. She is a Founding Member of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba and of the Grupo Rita Montaner. Married to playwright and director Eugenio Hernández Espinosa.

She studied music at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán and voice with Zoila Gálvez, continuing her studies at the Opera School of the Conservatorio Hubert de Blanck.

She was part of the Experimental Opera Group, with which she premiered in Cuba the works:
El retrato de Manon, by Massenet and
Amelia al baile, by Menotti.

As a Founding Member of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba, she performed mezzo-soprano roles such as:
Ana aurora as Magdalena
El matrimonio secreto (Fidalma, 1962);
Rigoletto (Magdalena, 1961 and 1965),
La médium (Señora Nolan, 1964)
and comic soprano roles:
La leyenda del beso (Simeona, 1968),
Cecilia Valdés (Dolorita, 1969),
La del soto del parral (Catalina, 1969).

From 1969 onwards she has performed almost always as an actress. As a founding member of the Grupo Rita Montaner she played the role of Vera Charles in the musical comedy Tía Meim (Nelson Dorr, 1970), alongside María de los Ángeles Santana. She has worked at the Teatro de Arte Popular and at Teatro Caribeño. She has appeared in the filming of several Cuban films such as:
Isabel (Mujer transparente) (dir. Hector Veitía, 1990);
Roble de olor (dir. R. López, 2003).
