Marta Vallín

Actress and singer, contralto

She was born in Matanzas. She studied acting and folkloric singing at the Academy of Dramatic Art, Matanzas and the Professional Development School "Ignacio Cervantes".

She gave her first public performances with the Dramatic Ensemble of Matanzas and was part of that city's Choir, where she was the leader of the contralto section.

Founder of the Lyric Theater of Matanzas in 1971, she participated in its first production, playing the roles of Dolores Santa Cruz and Dolores in Cecilia Valdés. She later acted in El cafetal (Candelita), Amalia Batista (Estrella), La Habana que vuelve (Natalia) and in some Spanish titles: Los gavilanes (Emma). When the Matanzas group disbanded, she joined the cast of the Lyric Studio of Havana, where she performed as Encarnación and la Chancletera in María la O (1987).

In 1993 she joined the National Lyric Theater of Cuba. She premiered the zarzuela ALÁNKORO, rancor and love, by Mike Romay (1993) and was part of the casts of the entire Cuban repertoire.

She has performed in Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and Austria.
