Martirena
In 1984 he became known in the humorous supplement Melaíto, and three years later he won the Grand Prize at the salon convened by the publication Palante on its 25th anniversary.
He collaborates with prestigious international media such as El Jueves, Batracio Amarillo, the magazine Quevedos, all Spanish; the magazine Chocarreros, from Mexico; El Nuevo Diario, from Nicaragua, and the American Witty World, specialized in graphic humor. In 1995 he obtained his first international award at the Grand Prix III Medunarodni Salon Karikature, Svorak-95, in Croatia.
He has exhibited his works in Switzerland, Nicaragua, Spain, Ecuador, and Canada.
In 2011 he participated in the International Biennial of San Antonio de los Baños, and obtained the Grand Prize of the salon and first prize in General Humor. That same year he received first prize in the comic strip category at the prestigious Piracicaba Salon, Brazil. In 2014 he received the award in the Caricature category at the Aquelarre Festival. In 2016 he achieved first prize in Political Satire at La Humoranga, an event that alternates with the International Biennial of San Antonio de los Baños.
He is a member of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), and of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac).
In 2017 he exhibited in the gallery of the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts, of Villa Clara, 52 drawings that summarize part of his work, with the title Martirena: 52 y pa'lante.
Among his published titles are: De oreja a oreja, Editorial Pablo, 1987; Humor in vitro, Editorial Batracio Amarillo, Spain, 2003; De vuelta y vuelta, Nausica Editorial, Spain, 2008; and Martirena en blanco y negro, Editorial Reina del Mar, Cienfuegos, 2012. He has illustrated four children's books: El pulpo Ataulfo, Editorial Grupo 33, Spain; Hola, Caracola, Editorial Grupo 33, Spain; Los Nosenique tienen la panza rayada, Ediciones Obrador, Canada; and La gata Adela, Ediciones Slongo, Switzerland.
