Alejandro Álvarez Bernal. Cuban writer who stands out for writing novels and literary chronicles.
He was born in La Habana. His university studies begin at the Faculty of History and Philosophy, specializing in Marxist Philosophy, but after two years he transfers to the Faculty of Philology, where he graduates with a specialization in Hispanic Literature.
He has written scripts for Cuban radio and television, as well as articles for national and foreign publications.
For several years he has been writing for Editorial Cubaliteraria, first as a columnist "Insurgencias" and later as a regular contributor in different sections, currently as moderator of Fabulaciones.
He has participated as a judge in national literary contests (Premio Pinos Nuevos, Premio de la Crítica, Premio Ernest Hemingway, Premio Alejo Carpentier, and others) and international ones (Julio Cortázar, for short stories).
He has also designed magazines, websites and books for different Cuban and foreign publishing houses.

Awards
His first novel, Cañón de retrocarga, won the Premio David and Premio Extraordinario in 1989, which would not be published until 1998. In 1993 he was awarded the Premio Razón de Ser for the novel project Irish Coffee (published in 2001).
