Aldo Lario
Died: October 3, 2005
Founder of the National Lyric Theater of Cuba in 1962.
He studied singing with Giulia Lucignani and with Tina Farelli. In the 1950s he began performing publicly.
His stage debut took place in 1960 when he performed the lead role of Los Payasos in the hall of the Central University of Las Villas. He also performed the lead roles in La Traviata, Rigoletto and numerous Spanish and Cuban zarzuelas.
In 1974 he toured Central Europe with his version and staging of Cecilia Valdés, which achieved great acceptance, accompanied by accolades and recognition.
He also directed other famous Cuban titles (Amalia Batista, Maria La O, El Cafetal), as well as the first productions by the National Lyric Theater of Cuba of the operas La Bohéme (1986) and Aida (1989).
He died in Havana, on October 3, 2005
