Graduate of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de La Habana, completing his piano degree with the highest grades.
He studied harpsichord in Spain with professors Genoveva Gálvez, Kenneth Gilbert and Pablo Cano at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, with Rafael Puyana at the Cursos Internacionales de Música en Compostela and participated in master classes offered by Gustav Leonhardt. He also studied with Czech professor Petr Sefl.
In 1968 he made his debut as a soloist at the Gran Teatro de La Habana with the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Escuela Nacional de Arte under the direction of maestro Enrique González Mántici.
He has an extensive trajectory of performances including recitals and concerts with various symphonic orchestras, achieving great success and recognition from specialized critics. He has performed at national and international festivals. His tours include Cuba, Spain, France, Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Algeria, Tunisia, Korea, Mongolia, Colombia, Puerto Rico and the United States.
He has conducted in-depth research on Cuban Piano Literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly the work of composers Ignacio Cervantes, Ernesto Lecuona and Carlos Borbolla, offering specialized lectures and recitals.
In 1980 he founded the Dúo Concertante de La Habana with clarinetist Jorge Serrano, in which he has developed extensive chamber music work. He founded and directed the Coro Diocesano de La Habana and initiated the publication of the Cantoral Litúrgico Nacional Cubano. He has made various recordings for Cuban radio and television and for the countries visited.
He premiered for the first time in Cuba the Sonatas and Fugues of Sebastián de Albero, Spanish composer from the 18th century, in the Sala Ernesto Lecuona of the Gran Teatro de La Habana. He offered in France a series of concerts on a Josephus Zimmermann fortepiano, original from 1791.
In 1990 he obtained the Premio Rosa Sabater from the Casa Hazen de Madrid. He possesses the Diploma for High Artistic Mastery granted by the Unión de Compositores de la URSS and also the Orden Santa María del Rosario from his native city.
In 1995, the centenary year of the birth of composer Ernesto Lecuona, he was invited by the Instituto Cubano de la Música to participate as a jury member and offer concerts at the "Concurso y Festival Internacional Ernesto Lecuona de La Habana," and by the Sociedad General de Autores de España (SGAE) to offer concerts within the framework of the "44 Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada" and to conduct the musical direction of the "Integral for Solo Piano" of this composer for the record label "Autor."
Since 1989 he has resided in Spain where he develops important work as a concert pianist performing on the most prestigious stages including the Teatro del Liceu (Barcelona), Auditorio Nacional de la Música (Madrid), and the Palau de la Música (Valencia).
In October 2001 he performed with great success in the Sala de la Armería of the Kremlin and in the Sala del Museo "Glinka" in Moscow.
At the International Festivals "Abril en Primavera" in Pyongyang he has offered recitals as a soloist and concerts with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Korea, obtaining the First Prize and Gold Diploma of the 19th International Festival "Abril en Primavera."
