Cuban singer, vocalist, and instrumentalist Zulema Iglesias Salazar will represent Cuba in the prestigious International Music Competition "Intervisión 2025", which will take place on September 20 at the Live Arena in Moscow, Russia.

Iglesias Salazar will compete with the song Guaguancó, of her own authorship. The musical production is directed by Argentine Rodrigo Sosa, recent winner of the Grand Cubadisco Prize 2025, and features arrangements by Sosa himself and Cuban Ángel Toirac, according to information provided by the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) through its official Facebook page.

The ICM statement details that the song fuses Cuban musical traditions with elements of the artist's personal history.

Iglesias' work is usually characterized by integrating traditional Cuban genres with contemporary influences, and also stands out for its wide vocal range. Specialized critics consider her an "extraordinary" artist who excels in her interpretive power and cultural roots, the institute emphasizes.

"Intervisión 2025" will bring together representatives from more than 20 countries, with significant participation from member and associate nations of the BRICS group, as well as from Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The winner will be chosen by vote of an international panel of music experts.

Zulema Iglesias is included in the excellence catalogs of the Music and Entertainment Marketing Company "Miguel Matamoros" from Santiago de Cuba, and of Musicuba, which belongs to EGREM.

Her discography includes six albums, among which stands out Solo tú, nominated for the Cubadisco Prize 2024. Her career has led her to represent Cuba in numerous festivals and international tours, with performances in Spain, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Mexico. In this last country she participated in the Maya Culture Festival in Isla Mujeres and in the reopening of the Benny Moré Cultural Center in Mexico City.

Originally from Santiago de Cuba, in the eastern part of the country, the artist has developed notable collaborations with Cuban and international figures. Among them stand out the masters Frank Fernández, Beatriz Márquez, and Pancho Amat, all of them National Music Prize winners in Cuba.
