Two women were the news of Cuban sports last weekend. On Saturday, Yunisleidy García broke the national record in the hundred meters, and triple jumper Leyanis Pérez won the second stop of the Diamond League, in Rabat.

García stopped the clock at 11.08 seconds and "threatens" to be the first from this island to break 11 seconds in the hundred meters. That mark, achieved at the Martinique 2023 Athletics Meet, according to Jit, surpasses Liliana Allen's 11.10 from 1992.

Meanwhile, it seems this will be a promising season for Leyanis Pérez. Just days ago she improved her personal record by ten centimeters, and yesterday she did it again. She arrived in Rabat with the 14.80 meters she achieved at the Copa Cuba, and yesterday she stretched to 14.84, with which she won, leaving Ukrainian Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (14.65) in second place and Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts (14.53) in third. Her teammate Liadagmis Povea placed fourth, with 14.27.

The heptathletes Marys Adela Patterson and Adriana Rodríguez did not perform as well, finishing in 22nd and 23rd places in Austria.

Patterson accumulated 5,577 points, far from her personal record of 6,113 points, and Rodríguez totaled 5,222, more than 2,000 points below her best result (6,313).

The winner was American Anna Hall, with 6,988, which places her as the season leader. British Katarina Johnson-Thompson was second, and Polish Adrianna Suek (6,480) third. In the men's competition, Yan Hernández (7,492) finished in 21st place, in a competition dominated by Canadian Pierce Lepage (8,700), surpassing the Olympic champion and fellow countryman Damian Warner (8,619). Norwegian Sander Skotheim (8,590) completed the podium.

American Ryan Crouser set the top mark. Last Saturday he shattered his own world record in shot put, at the Los Angeles Grand Prix of the usatf, the sixth Gold meeting of the World Athletics Continental Tour, by taking the implement to 23.56 meters, 19 centimeters more than his previous mark.
