This unfortunate news became official when MLB announced on its official Twitter account that Yordan Álvarez was left off the roster of the American League representative team due to the injury that placed him on the Houston Astros' 10-day Injured List.
The Cuban remained playing with discomfort in his hand following the collision with Jeremy Peña and this resulted in his condition progressively worsening, so last Sunday, July 10, he was placed on the 10-day list and is expected to return to active play after the All-Star Game break.
Following the controversial vote in which he lost by a margin of 52% to 48% against Shohei Ohtani in the race for the American League designated hitter starter, Yordan had been one of two Cubans selected among the reserves and pitchers, along with Nestor Cortes Jr, precisely that same Sunday.
Unfortunately, his physical condition does not allow him to complete his first participation in events of this type, so the 2019 Rookie of the Year, 2021 ALCS MVP and Player of the Month last June, will have to try again next season.
Despite the injury, Yordan continues to lead the Major Leagues in OPS (1.058), slugging (.653) and OPS+ 196. Additionally, he is third in home runs (26), seventh in RBIs (60) and runs scored (57), twelfth in AVE, with .306 and fourth in OBP with .405.
