Yordan Álvarez Hits Two Home Runs, Ties for MLB Home Run Lead

Cuban slugger Yordan Álvarez hit two home runs Tuesday as the Houston Astros defeated the Miami Marlins, a performance that tied him for the Major League Baseball home run lead with 33 this season. The Las Tunas native also raised his batting average to .325 and has driven in 75 runs, numbers that keep him among the top contenders for the American League Triple Crown.

The two-homer game gave Álvarez 27 multi-homer games this season, a mark surpassed in Astros franchise history only by Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell. The return of fellow Cuban starter Ronel Blanco rounded out a strong day for Cuban players in Houston.

Since his 2019 MLB debut, when he was named American League Rookie of the Year, Álvarez has established himself as one of baseball's most feared hitters and one of the most prominent Cuban figures in the sport today. He appeared earlier this month in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia alongside six other Cuban players.
