Cuban designated hitter Yordan Álvarez of the Houston Astros delivered one of the most impactful individual performances of the 2026 season on Friday, April 24, going 4-for-4 and sparking a dramatic come-from-behind victory over the New York Yankees at Daikin Park in Houston.

Álvarez, who entered the game in the midst of a historic offensive run, extended his dominance at the plate with four hits in the contest. His contribution proved decisive in Houston's comeback, as the Astros rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to overturn the score and claim the win.

The standout moment came when the Las Tunas native hit a game-tying double in the seventh inning, keeping Houston's hopes alive in a tense, back-and-forth encounter. Álvarez, who leads the major leagues in multiple offensive categories through the early weeks of the 2026 season — including home runs, RBIs, batting average, on-base percentage and OPS — once again proved his ability to rise to the occasion when the game was on the line.

"I feel very good out there," said Álvarez after the game. "I think those hard-hit balls were proof of that."

Friday's performance comes just two days after Álvarez launched his major league-leading 11th home run of the season against the Cleveland Guardians, prompting teammate Carlos Correa to compare him to Barry Bonds. With four more hits added to his résumé, the left-handed slugger continues to write what may be the finest season of his already decorated career.
