The International Dance Council (CID) added another Cuban dancer to its roster, bringing to three the number of artists from the Caribbean nation who have received the prestigious membership title during 2021.
According to the newspaper 5 de Septiembre, the director of the Flamenco Dance Company in the central province of Cienfuegos, Joel Zamora Yanes, confirmed the approval by the renowned non-governmental organization, founded in 1973.
This distinction, endorsed by the current president of the entity, Doctor Alkis Raftis, was received on June 27th by choreographer and dancer Elio Oreste Reyna Figueredo, director of the Danza Libre collective, in the eastern city of Guantánamo.
Five days earlier, Matanzas-born dancer Kenia Carrazana also obtained this privilege, at the helm of Novadanza and formerly an interpreter of Danza Espiral and the groups Teatro Dramático El Mirón Cubano and Teatro Icarón, from her native city.
For Cuba's dance movement, the entry of these exponents into the Council, which belongs to the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture, represents a worthy recognition of their individual work and effort.
Likewise, it symbolizes and enhances the reputation of the dancers among the more than 700 institutions and four thousand choreographers, educators, dance historians, managers, and critics that make up the CID.
