With a mark of 4.74 meters, Cuban Yarisley Silva finished second this Sunday at the All Star Perche (All Stars of the Pole Vault) meet in the French town of Clemont-Ferrand, the birthplace of former world record holder Renaud Lavillenie who is one of the organizers of the event in an indoor hall.
Yarisley started the competition at 4.46 meters, then passed on the third attempt over 4.56 and cleared 4.66 on the first opportunity. Also on the initial attempt she achieved 4.74 and shortly after failed three times at 4.80.
That was the height cleared by American Sandi Morris, who ultimately took first prize at a meet that brought together several of the best pole vaulters of the present day, including Swedish Armand Duplantis who in the last two weeks has set a pair of world records.
According to the deporcuba.com website, the 2015 world champion debuted a pole vault on French soil and her coach Alexandre Navas valued her performance positively, second of a winter season in which she placed third a few days ago in Lievin.
Third place went to Slovenian Tina Sutej, also with 4.74 meters but with more misses than the Caribbean athlete.
