Víctor Mesa Jr. reaches 100 hits for two straight seasons

August 20, 2022

Last Thursday, August 18, Cuban outfielder Víctor Mesa Jr. of the Miami Marlins reached the 100-hit mark with his Class A+ Beloit Sky Carp team in the current Minor League Baseball season in the United States.

Mesa Jr. needed 388 official at-bats to reach that milestone. In the game, he stepped up to the plate three times and the hit came in his last turn at bat, an action that allowed him to score the only run for his team in the 6-1 loss against the South Bend Cubs, a Chicago Cubs affiliate.

In the three seasons he has accumulated since his professional baseball debut in 2019, his best year in terms of hits was in 2021, when he achieved 114. In the current season, there are 10 days left in August and the rest of September for him to surpass that figure, which seems like a fairly easy goal for him to achieve.

During the current season, the Caribbean player has accumulated 105 games on MLB fields. In those games, he has come to the plate 394 times, in which he has connected 26 doubles, three triples, and five home runs.

Additionally, he has driven in 47 teammates and crossed home plate 46 times, for a total of 88 runs batted in. Meanwhile, his offensive line is .254/.332/.373 (AVE/OBP/SLG).

Likewise, in recent dates he has approached several significant milestones in his career as a professional player. Víctor Mesa Jr., at only 20 years old, is two at-bats away from reaching 1000.

Also, he has a total of 142 RBIs, just eight away from 150 in Minor League Baseball. Similarly, he is 11 bases away from reaching 400 runs scored and recently surpassed 150 runs (150) and 250 hits (264).
