William Rosquet, an international judo referee and provincial commissioner of the discipline in Artemisa, returned from the Dominican Republic two weeks ago and this Sunday was reported as positive for COVID-19.
After the Matanzas volleyball player Javier Jiménez was confirmed just a few days ago as the first case of coronavirus in the Cuban sports movement, this Sunday it was learned that international judo referee William Rosquet also tested positive for the disease, which is why he is hospitalized in the Caribbean capital.
Rosquet returned on March 16 from the Dominican Republic, where he worked as arbitration supervisor in the judo tournament of the Military Games of the Caribbean nation, which currently reports the largest number of cases (over 900) of the new coronavirus in the region.
According to the Sunday report from the Ministry of Public Health on the most recent positive cases detected to date, Rosquet began showing symptoms on March 23, a week after arriving from Santo Domingo, and in the survey on the 25th he was detected as a suspect.
Immediately, the renowned Cuban referee was sent to the Luis Díaz Soto hospital in the capital, where he has received all the necessary medical attention.
"I feel very well, the doctors have told me that the worst stage of the disease has already passed and that I am getting over this, because for several days now I have no fever; however, they will give me complete treatment with antibiotics and antivirals, including Interferon," Rosquet assured El Artemiseño newspaper, which contacted him by telephone.
