Reports released this Saturday indicate that three U.S. citizens would have been released in Cuba as part of the mass pardon of 2,010 prisoners announced by island authorities.
The information circulated first in news accounts that attribute the data to sources cited by Martí Noticias, although so far the names of those released have not been disclosed nor has there been official confirmation from the U.S. State Department regarding their situation or eventual return to the country.
In parallel, other coverage of the pardon has confirmed that among those benefited are foreigners and Cubans residing abroad, but without detailing identities. There also remains a lack of clarity about how many political prisoners have been included in this new round of releases.
The case adds a new angle to a story that has already generated international attention due to the volume of the pardon, the context of pressure from Washington, and calls from human rights organizations demanding greater transparency about those benefited.
