Cuban triple jumper Liadagmis Povea finished in third place during the eleventh stop of the Diamond League in Zurich, an event where Cubans Leyanis Pérez and high jumper Luis Enrique Zayas also competed.
Povea, sixth at the recent World Championship, repeated a mark of 14.73 m in rounds three and six, to finish behind the world-class Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas (15.15 m) and Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts (14.78 m). The competition was held under adverse weather conditions of 17° C.
Cuba's bronze medalist in triple jump Leyanis Pérez also competed, finishing fourth with a mark of 14.62 m. World runner-up Maryna Beck-Romanchuk finished sixth with 14.37 m.
With one event remaining for the triple jumpers in the Diamond League, Leyanis (26 points), Yulimar (24), Beck-Romanchuk (23) and Ricketts (22) have already secured spots in the circuit final. Meanwhile, Povea is in fifth place in the overall standings with 16 points.
For his part, high jumper Luis Enrique Zayas, fourth in Budapest, finished in seventh place with 2.24 m, achieved on his third attempt. The Caribbean athlete cleared 2.15 m and 2.20 m without fouls, but was unable to clear 2.27 m to continue in competition.
Ultimately, Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim took first place with a mark of 2.35 m.
In other events at this stop, Australian Nina Kennedy set the year's leading mark in women's pole vault with a jump of 4.91 m. Likewise, Swiss Jason Joseph (13.08 s) set a national record in the short hurdles and British Virgin Islands representative Kyron McMaster (47.27 s) won the 400 m hurdles.
Meanwhile, world champion in the 3,000 m steeplechase, Bahraini Winfred Mutile Yavi (9:03.19) repeated her victory, Laura Muir (GBR - 1:57.71) led the 800 meters among the women and Shericka Jackson (JAM - 21.82 s) showed her dominance in the 200 meters.
Finally, Armand Duplantis (SWE - 6.00 m) won the pole vault among the men, Yomif Kejelcha (ETH - 12:46.91) triumphed in the 5,000 m, Miltiadis Tentoglou (GRE - 8.20 m) dominated the long jump and Noah Lyles (USA - 19.80 s) led the 200 meters.
